Florida DL Christian Hudson gives glowing review of Maryland OV, talks timeline

Mainland (FL) three-star defensive tackle Christian Hudson has made himself plenty familiar with College Park after visiting twice in the spring, but the 6-foot lineman made his way back to College Park over the weekend where multiple aspects of the program – on and off the field – impressed him.

“A lot of new different things this time around. I noticed that most of the staff was African-American, which really showed the diversity and their true color which I really like in the football program because you don’t see that too many places,” Hudson told IBG. “They made me feel like a priority from the first step on campus and just being around them.”

“It’s a great place, family environment and with coach Locks being the head man, I see a lot of greatness. One thing they really did that caught my eye was the mentorship program they have there. I loved that. I see how they produce. They’ve got the Florida guys like me. I was with Jordan Phillips, he’s from Florida just like me and he says he loves it up there. I really do take his word because I see what they’ve done for him and what he’s doing with it.”

Assistant James Thomas has led the way with Hudson through the spring while defensive coordinator Brian Williams has chipped in, but once again, defensive GA David Brownlee came up with another priority target as someone in consistent contact.

“I talked to coach Locks at his house, in his office. I had a meeting with coach [Brian Williams] at the school and I was talking with coach [James Thomas] throughout the visit. Coach [David] Brownlee, he was our staff guide so it was a lot of good conversations with them. He’s been reaching out to me for a little minute now, since I started getting recruited by them,” he added.

After replenishing the offensive line in the 2024 cycle, Hudson knows he has a chance to step into a role with early playing time with the defensive line entering the fall with multiple veterans on the roster. “They’re losing about five or six interior guys this year and what they stressed to me the most was the need at the position and how I fit right into the position. That’s why they said I’m one of the top guys they’re trying to recruit.”

After wrapping up prior official visits to UCF and Iowa State along with plans set to officially visit Iowa next weekend, Hudson admitted the Terps knocked this weekend’s official visit out of the park but he won’t name a leader until all four are complete.

“My top schools are the ones I’m going on officials to – UCF, Iowa State, Iowa and Maryland. I’m going to sit down with my parents to talk about all the different schools, look at the pros and the cons and really bunker down.”

A decision won’t come much longer after that.

“I’m going to make my decision on July 6th.”

Maryland will now get a chance to reel in defensive line targets in consecutive days as Riverdale Baptist (MD) three-star Nahsir Taylor set to announce on July 5th.

Christian Hudson is not yet rated by On3, but checks in as a three-star and an 89 overall by 247Sports.
