Another Terp is back in the college ranks as former star Maryland wide receiver Geroy Simon is making the move to Sacramento State, where he joins Brennan Marrion in his first season as head coach. Bruce Feldman of The Athletic first reported the news.
This marks Simon's first coaching job in the college ranks after making a name for himself in the CFL over the last two decades. Simon’s coaching career began back in 2014 as an area scout for the Saskatchewan Roughriders before stints with the BC Lions and Edmonton Elks where he served as director of scouting – first in Canada before becoming global scout. Simon was named assistant general manager in 2022 before being promoted in 2024.
As a player, Simon shined in College Park where he still holds the program-record for most single-game receptions after posting 16 against Florida State back in 1995. The Pa. native still sits top ten all-time in career receptions (185), single-season receptions (77) and career receiving yards (2,059) before stints with the Bengals, Eagles, Steelers and Bucs in 1997 and 1998. Simon also signed to the Chiefs’ practice squad in 2001, but he spent 15 seasons of his playing career in the CFL where he set franchise records with the BC Lions and was named the CFL’s most outstanding player in 2006.
A two-time Grey Cup winner, Simon was inducted into the CFL Hall of Fame in 2017 and saw his number inducted into the BC Lions’ Ring of Honour in 2015.
