CB Tarheeb Still draws high grade in re-draft of 2024 NFL Draft

The 2024 NFL regular season wrapped up over the weekend with the playoff matchups now set, giving some teams a chance to hit the reset button. It also gave media a chance to reflect on last year’s draft class which produced one more draft pick out of Maryland in cornerback Tarheeb Still, who came off the board in the fifth round with the 137th overall pick by the Los Angeles Chargers. One year later, Still found himself coming off the board four years later in a redraft of the 2024 NFL Draft.

In The 33rd Team’s re-draft, Still was selected by the Miami Dolphins with the 21st overall pick – the same pick that was used to select former Maryland and Penn State DE Demeioun Robinson back in April.

The 33rd Team: “A pass rusher could be worth taking with Robinson off the board, but there aren't many exciting cornerbacks left on the board in this redraft. Tarheeb Still has been one of the most surprising rookies in the league. A fifth-round pick, he's almost single-handedly shut down opposing passing games. He's allowed 40 catches on 65 targets with two touchdowns allowed but four interceptions and a 70.4 passer rating allowed in coverage. It looks like Still could have a long career as a ball-hawking cornerback in the NFL, which is incredible considering where he was drafted.

Still was also named the defensive layer of the week in the week 13 win vs. Atlanta after coming down with two interceptions, including a 62-yard pick six, in addition to posting three tackles and three pass deflections.

“Drug test that man,” Chargers LB Daiyan Henley said after the win, to which Still was met with a postgame drug test by the NFL.

Whether Still makes the All-Rookie team is now the biggest question, though he was omitted by CBS Sports with Kamari Lassiter (Houston), Cooper DeJean (Philadelphia) and Quinyon Mitchell (Philadelphia).

Still leads the team in interceptions (4) and interception yards (85) thanks to his pick-six making him the lone Charger defender with a touchdown in 2024, while he sits fourth on the team in tackles (62).

“Thrilled, personally. I think collectively I think we’re always happy for teammate success, for the other guy success and well-deserved,” head coach Jim Harbaugh said after the win. “The monster game that he had, it’s well-deserved. We like him. Like our guys to aspire to win the most awards, get the best grades, excel at sports. And so fired up. Another virtual hug for the way Tarheeb played and also the PBU he went for on the sideline. Didn’t make the play somehow, their receiver stayed in bounds – that was right in front of me. A lesser man could not have accomplished that which would be about 99% of all football players. But he did and then somehow, Tarheeb got up, tracked him down and kept him out of the endzone, making that touchdown-saving tackle. That’s just so huge.”

Still is one of six Maryland defensive backs drafted over the last six years, joining Darnell Savage (Packers), Antoine Brooks (Steelers), Nick Cross (Colts), Deonte Banks (Giants) and Jakorian Bennett (Raiders).

Still signed with Maryland as a three-star prospect before becoming an immediate contributor in the secondary, starting all four years and totaling six interceptions, nine TFLs and 28 pass deflections in 39 games through his college career.
