Fresh off day one of official visit weekend for head coach Buzz Williams, Maryland men’s basketball now has its eighth portal commitment of the offseason after former Virginia forward Elijah Saunders announced his transfer into the program.
Saunders was a steady contributor for the Cavaliers this past year, averaging 10.4 points, 5.0 rebounds and 0.8 assists for the ACC program during the 2024-25 season.
Prior to his time in the ACC, Saunders played for the San Diego State Aztecs. He spent two seasons with the team, averaging 6.2 points during the 2023-24 campaign.
Saunders now joins former Texas A&M forward Pharrel Payne as commits in the frontcourt.
Saunders originally entered the NCAA transfer portal on April 2 after Ryan Odom was announced as the next head coach at Virginia, moving on from his job at VCU.
