Fans will get a chance to watch a handful of recently departed Terps for the last time before April’s NFL Draft as DL Tommy Akingbesote, DL Jordan Phillips, WR Kaden Prather and SAF Glen Miller are set to suit up in the 100th edition of the East-West Shrine Bowl today.
Kickoff is set for 8 PM on NFL Network at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX.
This marks the second consecutive year that Maryland has sent four players to the East-West Shrine Bowl after CB Tarheeb Still, CB Ja’Quan Sheppard, OT Gottlieb Ayedze and QB Taulia Tagovailoa suited up in 2024.
While all four look to bolster their draft stock, it’s been Jordan Phillips whose unsurprisingly caught the attention of scouts and media in attention through practices. The two-year Maryland lineman also boasted a 705-pound squat, 495-pound bench press and 395-pound power clean before being named to the Shrine Bowl All Practice Team heading into Thursday’s game.
“I’m a beast. I’m a gentleman off the field. Everything I do is genuine and all I’m trying to do is show everybody who I truly am,” Phillips said on Wednesday.
Bios
Akingbesote started all 12 games for the Terps on the defensive line in 2024. He was the team’s leading tackler among defensive linemen with 32 total tackles. A Largo, Maryland native, Akingbesote added 5.0 tackles for loss, a sack, forced fumble and fumble recovery to his stat line during his senior season.
Miller finished the season with three interceptions, tied for both the sixth-most in the Big Ten and the most on the Terps. Miller also added 39 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, two pass breakups and a fumble recovery. The redshirt senior from Orange Park, Florida had a four-game streak with an interception dating back to the 2023 season, the longest for a Maryland player since 1999.
Phillips started all 12 games for the Terps during his redshirt sophomore season, leading all defensive linemen on the team with 17 solo tackles. On the year, Phillips had 29 total tackles, including a career-high eight stops against Iowa. In two seasons for the Terps, Phillips appeared in all 25 games with 23 starts.
Prather started all 12 games for the Terps during his senior season. He ranked second on the team and 11th in the Big Ten with 56 receptions. His 624 receiving yards and four touchdown grabs each ranked second on the squad.
