Jahmir Young shining in the G-League, named to All-Showcase Team

Jahmir Young continues to do his thing in the G-League.

The rookie guard was named to the G League All-Winter Showcase Team on Dec. 23 alongside TJ Warren, Jahlil Okafor, Leonard Miller and Josh Christopher last week after the former Maryland guard averaged 22.2 points, 6.8 assists and 1.7 steals through 13 games.

Young opened the Winter Showcase Tournament with a near-double double after posting 22 points, 9 assists and 7 rebounds before following it up with 28 points, 7 assists, 6 rebounds and 3 steals against the Westchester Knicks.

Young continued that strong play into the regular season this week. On Friday night, Young posted his third double-double in the G-League after finishing with 26 points, 12 assists, five rebounds and three steals in a 120-103 win vs. the Maine Celtics in the regular season opener. Young has scored at least 20 points in 11 of his 14 total games played for the Grand Rapids Gold as he continues to make his case for the NBA.

Terps in the NBA

Kevin Huerter (Sacramento): in his seventh season in the league, Huerter is part of a struggling Kings team that saw head coach Mike Brown surprisingly fired on Friday afternoon amid the team’s five-game losing streak. Huerter is averaging 9.6 points per game while shooting 31.2% from three, both career-lows, while he’s started in 15 of the Kings’ 27 games.

Alex Len (Sacramento): in 23 appearances and three starts, Len has struggled to match his production as he’s averaging a career-low 1.4 points in 7.2 minutes per game. With Domantas Sabonis sidelined last week due to illness, Len drew his first start in nearly one month after four points and six rebounds in 23 minutes in a 114-113 last-second loss vs. Detroit.

Bruno Fernando (Toronto): playing just 21 minutes through the month of December, Fernando may be on transaction watch with his contract set to become fully guaranteed on Jan. 10. He’s averaging 3.6 points and 3.1 rebounds in 8.9 minutes per game this season. Fernando is in his first season with the Raptors after stints with the Hawks, Rockets and Celtics.

Jalen Smith (Chicago): the Baltimore big is likely to remain in the rotation despite suffering an ankle injury as he’s played at least ten minutes in every game for the Bulls this season.

He’s averaging 7.9 points on 47% shooting in 23 appearances and one start.

Aaron Wiggins (OKC): after inking a five-year extension, the former Maryland wing has seen an inconsistent role with the Thunder after playing more than 20 minutes just once over the last seven games – the exception being an 11-point outing in 31 minutes vs. Orlando back on Dec. 19.
