Since falling to Notre Dame in the national championship, head coach John Tillman has been on a tear in the transfer portal to restock the 2025 roster. That momentum on the trail continued into Friday after reeling in his fourth and fifth portal commitment, while one former Terp will head to ACC territory. Noah Armitage, a 6-foot-4, 210-pound offensive midfielder out of Stony Brook, was Maryland’s first commitment for John Tillman this offseason. Armitage tallied 24 points for the Seawolves this past season, coming off of 20 goals and four assists. In his four years at Stony Brook, Armitage scored 73 goals and tallied 31 assists to his name. Armitage was a first-team All-CAA selection in 2023. Armitage steps into a key role as an offensive midfielder where he will look to give the Terps another scoring threat coming out of the midfield after losing several following the 2024 season. Bryce Ford, a hybrid offensive player out of Fairfield, was the second commit of this cycle for Maryland. Ford, a 5-foot-11, 193-pound lefty, is a proven scorer after tallying 162 career points, including 39 goals and 13 assists this past season. Ford earned second-team All-CAA honors this past season and has been a captain for Fairfield for the last three seasons, proving he is also a very good leader. Ford gives Maryland yet another left-handed scoring threat out of the midfield. AJ Hernandez, a 5-foot-11, 184-pound close defender out of Navy, was the third reported commitment for Maryland. Hernandez did not play for Navy this past season, leaving him with three years of eligibility remaining. During Hernandez’s freshman season, he played in 15 games while starting eight, sitting third on the team with 12 caused turnovers and 16 ground balls. Hernandez was ranked as the 55th-best recruit in the country coming out of Boys Latin School in Baltimore by Inside Lacrosse. Next season, Hernandez will look to battle for a close defense spot with the Terps losing Ajax Zappitello and Jackson Canfield to graduation. Matt Keegan, a 6-foot, 175-pound attackman out of Binghamton, was Tillman’s fourth portal pickup of the offseason as he heads to College Park for his final season of eligibility. He’s proven to be a solid scorer from the left wing, totaling 118 points, including 34 goals and 13 assists this past season. Like Ford, Keegan was also a team captain for Binghamton this past season while he was named an American East All-Conference first-team selection in each of the last two seasons. Look for Keegan to battle it out between Daniel Kelly and Ford for the lefty attackman spot, but if he does not get it, he could likely play in the midfield along with Armitage and Ford. Zack Goorno, a 6-foot, 205-pound short-stick defensive midfielder out of Bowdoin, is the latest offseason commitment. Goorno is physical and is a threat to score in transition as well. In his career, Goorno totaled 26 caused turnovers and 208 ground balls picked up while also totaling 61 points coming off of 26 goals and 35 assists. He will look to add to a short-stick defensive midfield unit that was the Achilles heel of the Terps defense in 2024. Goorno has earned first-team All-NESCAC honors for the last three seasons as well as the USILA division three short-stick defensive midfielder of the year the last two seasons. Look for Goorno to be a very solid addition to the short-stick defensive midfield room for next season. Meanwhile, former Terp Eric Malever found a new home after committing to Duke this week.
