After trimming his list to a top ten this summer, St. John’s (DC) three-star guard Omari Witherspoon has entered the final stage of his recruitment after releasing his final three with Maryland, Pitt and Vanderbilt still in the mix heading into his senior season.
Witherspoon, a 6-foot-4, 180-pound guard, has already wrapped up official visits to both Vanderbilt and West Virginia while he’s fresh off an official visit to West Virginia. The local guard is set to take an official visit to Maryland on Oct. 18, but he made his way to campus for an unofficial visit back on Aug. 22 where assistant David Cox and head coach Kevin Willard made their pitch to their guard target. As Maryland looks for its first commitment in the 2025 class with official visits beginning this upcoming weekend, the expectation is that Witherspoon makes his decision prior to his official visit to Maryland next month.
Witherspoon’s rise through the rankings this summer was spearheaded by his scoring ability along with him showcasing his potential to play both on and off the ball. Witherspoon was named a standout at DC Live back in June after becoming a facilitator for the Cadets while also scoring 20 points in just 22 minutes. The local guard will get a chance to run the point at Maryland, a factor in Witherspoon’s decision and additional reason why the hometown team has become a factor in his recruitment.
Omari Witherspoon is rated a three-star prospect and an 89 overall by On3, sitting as the fourth-best prospect in DC.
