Maryland Baseball heads to Boston College for Final Road Series

Coming off an incredible comeback against USC Upstate, Maryland baseball heads to Chestnut Hill for a three-game series with Boston College that will be Maryland's last road series of the season. The Terps are on their Big Ten "bye week" so they will have to scoreboard-watch all weekend to see their fate going into the Penn State series next weekend. Here's a preview of the weekend: Where We Are: Maryland Maryland is coming off of an amazing win on Wednesday at home to USC Upstate. The Spartans came into College Park with an RPI ranking of 91 and led 8-0 at one point. Maryland scored 11 unanswered runs to win 11-8. The win keeps Maryland's slim chances alive of receiving an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Maryland remains in eighth place in the Big Ten standings. Boston College It hasn't been a great year for the Eagles, as the are 21-25 overall and just 8-19 in a stacked ACC. The Eagles were looking to replicate one of their most successful seasons in program history in 2024 but have fallen short. Last season, BC made the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2016 and got all the way to the Tuscaloosa regional final, but were bounced by Alabama losing 8-0. Series Schedule: Saturday - 2:00 - Omar Melendez (1-2, 5.44 ERA)  vs John West (1-3, 4.91) Melendez made his first Friday night start of the season last week at Rutgers and threw a gem. Melendez pitched six and two thirds innings allowing just three runs to the Scarlet Knights. In a season where the Terps have struggled to find consistent pitching, Melendez has given the Terps several quality starts. It's probably fair to expect Melendez to make the final two series opening starts for Maryland. West has been the best starter that BC has had this season. He is coming off of two brilliant starts, each one of seven innings against Louisville and Virginia. He only allowed two runs in each start. He has given up more than three runs just twice in his last six starts for the Eagles in his fourth season pitching for BC. Saturday - 45 minutes after Game 1  - Joey McMannis (1-2, 4.99 ERA) vs AJ Colarusso (3-6, 7.45 ERA) The freshman McMannis has had an excellent first season in college baseball. His latest start was not the longest, just three and two-thirds, but he still only allowed two earned runs to Rutgers. McMannis has still only allowed more than three runs just one time in any start this season. He will look to potentially add some length to his starts, as he has not gone past the five inning mark since April 7th against Indiana. The sophomore Colarusso has had an interesting season. He has allowed at least four runs in four of his last five starts, most recently a clunker against Louisville. He allowed eight earned runs in five and a thirds innings last weekend against the Cardinals. Prior to that, however, he pitched four scoreless against Virginia. Sunday - 3:00 - Logan Koester (5-6, 6.27 ERA) vs Michael Farinelli (0-5, 6.65 ERA) Koester was moved to the back of the rotation last week and the original signs are encouraging. Koester made his best start last week against Rutgers since late March throwing six quality innings versus the Scarlet Knights and allowing just three runs. Koester has mightily struggled in conference play, but has been superb in non-conference games, providing some hope for his start this weekend. Farinelli has both started games and come out of the bullpen for BC. His last outing was a good one against Louisville lasting six and a thirds innings and giving up just two to the Cardinals. He has had outings similar to that, but also has had outings where he has struggled. He allowed seven to Wake Forest and eight to Notre Dame as he continues to look for his first win of the year. Hitters to Watch Maryland Kevin Keister provided the biggest hit of Wednesday's game with a go-ahead three run homer in the bottom of the seventh to put Maryland up 9-8. Devin Russell also continues to swing a good bat, hitting two home runs against USC Upstate, and Chris Hacopian homered for Maryland as well. Both Hacopian brothers, Russell, and Brayden Martin all had multiple hits as well. Boston College The Eagles' third baseman Nick Wang has had a nice season, as he comes into the weekend hitting .281 out of the number three spot. Wang has three runs and four hits in his last four games. Kyle Wolff is another name to look out for for BC. Wolff is a .320 hitter with seven home runs and 41 runs knocked in. He also has four games this season with at least three hits. Second baseman Vince Cimini has also been good for BC, also with four hits in his last three games, and five home runs for the Eagles. Both of Saturday's games will be on ACC Network Xtra, while Sunday's game can be seen on the ACC Network. All Maryland Baseball games are free to listen to on the Maryland Baseball Network.
