Maryland has made its first big move on the coaching staff this offseason. Aazaar Abdul-Rahim is returning to Maryland as co-defensive coordinator, cornerbacks coach and associate head coach, giving Maryland an experienced piece to work along the defense and another proven recruiter to boost its local recruiting footprint. The news was first reported by Matt Zenitz. Sources told IBG that Aazaar to Maryland was in the works through the fall, while the position became finalized over the last week as head coach Mike Locksley is expected to add a piece who was once integral to the Terps' recruiting success within the DMV. "I'm thrilled to add Aazaar to the coaching staff and to get him back home,” said Locksley. “I have a great long-standing relationship with him and know he means so much to so many that are from this area. In addition to his ties to the DMV and ability to recruit at a very high level, Aazaar also has a proven track record of developing student-athletes both on and off the field, and setting them up for long-term success." Aazaar Abdul-Rahim joins Maryland after four seasons with Boston College where he became a key piece to the Eagles' recruiting efforts in the DMV, while producing on the field. While at Boston College, Abdul-Rahim developed a pair of defensive backs in Elijah Jones and Jaiden Woodbey, who became honorable mention All-ACC selections in 2022. He was elevated to co-defensive coordinator ahead of the 2023 season while remaining the defensive backs coach. During his time at Maryland from 2016 to 2018, Aazaar Abdul-Rahim developed players like Antoine Brooks, Tino Ellis and recruited others like Anthony McFarland, Jaelyn Duncan, Austin Fontaine, DJ Turner, Deon Jones and Terrance Davis to College Park. On the field, Maryland saw ample production under Abdul-Rahim after posting ten interceptions during 2017, the most by the team in 14 years. Aazaar Abdul-Rahim was also the primary recruiter in Maryland's pursuit of JC Jackson, a former juco product who became a second-team All-Pro cornerback selection following the 2021 season.
