Maryland football is roughly five weeks away from the start of spring ball as fans have a target date to watch the 2023 Terrapins. Maryland announced that spring practice begins on March 28 and the annual Red-White spring game is set for noon on Saturday, April 29. Maryland returns fourth-year starter Taulia Tagovailoa at quarterback to lead an offense that features Roman Hemby, Kaden Prather, Tyrese Chambers, Tai Felton and Octavian Smith. Veteran wide receiver Jeshaun Jones is also back with the program this spring going through offseason workouts, while the defense returns five starters in 2023. Freshman All-American Jaishawn Barham and All-Big Ten safety Beau Brade lead a unit that also added Jordan Phillips and Donnell Brown to the front seven along with Ja’Quan Sheppard and Avantae Williams in the secondary. Maryland will have several questions to answer in the spring, starting with an offensive line that now returns one starter in DJ Glaze. While Corey Bullock and Gottlieb Ayedze fill voids left by Spencer Anderson and Jaelyn Duncan, the spring will give offensive line coach Brian Braswell a chance to iron out his starters at left guard at center. Maryland is also tasked with replacing all three starters along the defensive line as Tommy Akingbesote, ‘Tank’ Booker and Taizse Johnson fill in while Tennessee transfer Jordan Phillips will play an integral role in the trenches. Maryland will look for their third consecutive bowl win in year five under Mike Locksley as the Terps are coming off an 8-5 season that ended with a win over No. 23 NC State in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl.
