Maryland football has its tenth portal commitment and second along the offensive line this offseason after Central Connecticut State OT Rahtrel Perry went public with his decision.
Â
Perry, a 6-foot-7, 323-pound tackle, committed to Maryland over Ohio State, Florida State, Syracuse and Pitt while Washington, Boston College, Cincinnati, LSU and Virginia were another who was showing interest. Perry also joins former Akron OT Jayvin James as the second portal offensive lineman this offseason as head coach Mike Locksley and assistant Damian Wroblewski rebuild the trenches.
Â
After visits to Syracuse and Pitt, Perry made his way to College Park back on Dec. 16 where Maryland got a chance to roll out the red carpet on a one-day visit. Perry was initially slated to visit Cincinnati and Boston College ahead of the December dead period before venturing out to Ohio State and Florida State – replacing a trip to check out Florida with what ended up being his final visit to check out the ‘Noles. But Maryland remained consistent with the rising sophomore as they waited for a finalized decision from Perry.
Â
After redshirting in 2022, Perry appeared in eight games in 2023 before transitioning into a full-time starter in 2024 where he started every game to log over 900 snaps at left tackle for Central Connecticut, ending his time with the program as a first-team All-NEC selection. Perry was part of an offensive line that finished third in FCS with 0.69 sacks allowed per game.
Â
The towering tackle commitment will head to campus alongside the rest of the transfer portal commits, while the 2025 signees are expected to enroll in the program at the end of January. Maryland returns Aliou Bah, Alan Herron, Andre Roye, Terez Davis and Michael Hershey in 2025.
Â
Perry is rated the 13th-best offensive tackle in the transfer portal and 214th-best overall prospect, per On3’s transfer portal rankings. He heads to College Park with two years of eligibility left.
