Maryland football has picked up another transfer portal commitment, this time along the defensive line as former Florida State edge DD Holmes has announced his transfer destination.
Holmes, a former four-star prospect out of Gonzaga (DC) in the 2024 class, will head to Maryland with four years of eligibility remaining. His decision comes after visiting College Park this weekend.
It also serves as a homecoming for Holmes as the Terps were a top contender and viewed as the runner-up in his recruitment out of high school. Defensive coordinator Brian Williams led the way with the 6-foot-6, 255-pound edge prospect out of high school as Maryland hosted the former four-star for a summer official visit. And it was a now-former player who helped the Terps leave an impact on the top local target. “[Jordan Phillips] really made an impact on DD and I think they chose the correct person for DD," Holmes' mother told IBG after the visit.
Florida State would ultimately hang onto his commitment as the Terps worked to pull off the rare feat in flipping a committed Gonzaga prospect, but in the end, Holmes will head to College Park as Williams and head coach Mike Locksley add a big piece to the foundation of the defense in 2025 and beyond.
Holmes played in just one game as a ‘Nole, recording one tackle in the win against Charleston Southern to retain his redshirt status.
Holmes joins Saint Francis DL Eyan Thomas as the second commitment out of the portal within the front seven, while Maryland is expected to return Kellan Wyatt, DJ Samuels, Lavon Johnson, Neeo Avery and Dillon Fontus among others.
