Maryland football’s season is officially spiraling as Rutgers walked away from College Park with a 31-17 win on Saturday, handing the Terps their third consecutive game as head coach Mike Locksley’s team now sits 4-6 (1-6). And it won’t get any easier to close out the season with a pair of bowl-eligible teams still left on the schedule.
Maryland will welcome Iowa to College Park next Saturday, Nov. 23 for a 12 PM kickoff on BTN and they’ll do so as comfortable home underdogs. Iowa opens as a 5.5-point favorite against Maryland. Maryland is 2-3 as an underdog this season, though 1-0 against the spread when underdogs at SECU Stadium.
Iowa has won the last three games against Maryland as Saturday marks the first matchup between Maryland and Iowa since 2021. Iowa dominated Maryland in SECU Stadium that night in a 51-14 game, a night that fans have worked years to forget. WR Dontay Demus went down with a season-ending injury in the loss while QB Taulia Tagovailoa tossed five interceptions in the loss.
It also marks a reunion of sorts as Brian Ferentz, former Iowa offensive coordinator and current Maryland analyst, reunites with his dad yet this time from the opposite sideline.
Iowa is coming off their second and final bye of the season as they head to College Park sitting 6-4 (4-3) overall. The Hawkeyes will look to get back in the win column after a three-point loss at UCLA back on Nov. 2 ended a two-game win streak.
Maryland, meanwhile, is searching for their first win since defeating USC, 29-28, back on Oct. 19.
