Maryland football returns to SECU Stadium this upcoming weekend for the first time since the homecoming win vs. USC, and they’ll do so as slight favorites in College Park.
Maryland opens as a 3.5-point favorite with the over/under opening at 47.5, per FanDuel. DraftKings has Maryland as a three-point favorite, while the Terps have covered the spread in four of their nine games so far this season.
After an offseason filled with sky high aspirations, and even talk as a sleeper pick for the College Football Playoffs, arguably no team has been hit harder by the injury bug than Rutgers this season after missing several key contributors for the 2024 season. Meanwhile, star running back Kyle Monangai missed Saturday’s home game vs. Minnesota with his status uncertain for Saturday, but Rutgers was able to skate by without him. Rutgers snapped a four-game losing streak after defeating Minnesota, 26-19, in a back-and-forth game in Piscataway to move to 5-4 (2-4).
Maryland, meanwhile, fell to 4-5 (1-5) after falling at top-ranked Oregon, 39-18, as head coach Mike Locksley looks to guide the Terps to 4-2 at home and most importantly, back to .500. Maryland has won three consecutive games vs. Rutgers and are 4-1 since Locksley took over the program in 2019.
“When you watch us play, these guys play hard. They’re practicing the right way. We just, we’re not playing to our potential. We’re not playing smart and it’s so frustrating when you watch it because you see the plays that are there we have to make and we’re really close and this is what the frustration that I have,” Locksley said following the loss.
Saturday also marks Military Appreciation Day as the two teams meet for the 11th consecutive season.
