Maryland opens as comfortable favorites vs. Northwestern

Following the bye week, Maryland football is back in action on Friday night as they welcome the Northwestern Wildcats to College Park for an 8 PM kickoff. And the sportsbooks like the Terps' odds of getting back in the win column.

Maryland opens as a 9.5-point favorite, per FanDuel, with the O/U opening at 44.5 points.

Northwestern is coming off a 41-24 to Indiana at home, cementing the Hoosiers as the first team to secure bowl eligibility in 2024, while dropping the Wildcats to 2-3 (0-2). Northwestern trimmed the lead to as little as three points in the second half before the Hoosiers scored 14 straight points to close out the game.

Maryland will look to replicate last season’s success on Friday nights in a borderline must-win game as the Terps look for their first Big Ten win of the 2024 season, while Maryland is 0-4 in games coming out of the bye week since Mike Locksley took over as head coach following the 2018 season.

While Northwestern holds a 3-1 all-time series lead, the two teams have split the last two games as a familiar name stepped up to lead the lone win against the Wildcats. During the last game in College Park in 2022, QB Billy Edwards Jr. stepped up to replace an injured Taulia Tagovailoa as he finished 18-of-28 for 166 yards and one touchdown while RB Roman Hemby finished with 179 yards and three touchdowns, including a game-sealing 75-yard touchdown run with just over three minutes left.

Friday night’s game will be broadcast on FS1.
