Maryland Signs 2022 Forward

2022 forward Caelum Swanton-Rodger has announced his commitment to Maryland, filling one of two vacant scholarships available on the 2022-23 roster.

The emerging forward was named to the 2022 BioSteel All Canadian Game where he finished with four points, seven rebounds and three blocks in 15 minutes of action to help Team Red beat Team White 135-120. Swanton-Rodger also participated in the U-16 Americas Championship back in 2019 where he averaged 1.8 points and 3.2 rebounds in 10.2 minutes across four games.

Evaluation from On Point Basketball:

Very good shot blocker (leads The Grind Session in blocks) with good timing and effort. Moves well and can switch in the P&R. Offensive game is not very advanced and his frame is on the lighter side, though he’s added some weight since playing with Team Canada’s U16 in 2019.

He joins Julian Reese, Donta Scott, Arnaud Revaz and Pavlo Dziuba in the frontcourt as head coach Kevin Willard and the staff’s pursuit to fill out the team heading into year one is now complete. Meanwhile, Maryland announced details of a home-and-home with UCLA on Wednesday morning while five non-conference home games have reportedly been finalized.

Caelum Swanton-Rodger: "Maryland is a perfect fit for me and I am excited to become a Terp. Coach Willard and Coach Billmeier have been great during the recruiting process and I can't wait to be a part of the program they are building at Maryland. I'm going to put in the work to put on a show come game day."

Kevin Willard: “Caelum is a great addition for our incoming class,” said Willard. “He is a high-motor center who is extremely active around the rim and on the defensive end. He’s very effective in pick-and-roll situations because of his athleticism around the basket.”
