Maryland women's basketball loses Bri McDaniel to season-ending injury

Maryland women’s basketball suffered a big hit on Monday morning after the program announced junior guard Bri McDaniel will miss the remainder of the 2024-25 season after suffering a torn ACL in last week’s win vs. Minnesota.

“To all my fans and friends, I just want to say thank you for all your support, love and prayers. Due to an ACL tear in my right knee, I won’t be able to play for the rest of the season, but don’t worry y’all, the comeback is coming soon! 24 out,” McDaniel wrote.

McDaniel played in all 17 games and started in two and sits third on the team in scoring, averaging 10.6 points per game on while one of four players shooting over 50% from the field while scoring in double figures in nine games this season. McDaniel also posted 11 of her 15 points in the second half of the Nov. 10 win vs. Duke, becoming a key piece in Maryland’s 16-1 start.

“We are so sad for Bri. She brings a competitive fire and passion every time she steps on the court and I know she will continue to pour that into her teammates. She will have incredible support from our Maryland family and her amazing family back home. We will be with her every step of the way and I know she will attack her recovery and rehab to come back stronger than ever,” head coach Brenda Frese said.

Maryland, who remained at eighth in Monday’s updated AP poll, will now look to maintain their winning ways when they face seventh-ranked Texas at the Prudential Center on Monday afternoon for a 5:30 PM tip. Maryland, who secured their fourth ranked win of the season after defeating Minnesota 99-92 on Jan. 14, will also travel to face Ohio State before hosting UCLA over the next week as head coach Brenda Frese is in the midst of the toughest stretch this season.
