After a 5-0 start, DeMatha (MD) will shift their attention to the beginning of WCAC play this weekend when they host Gonzaga (DC) for a 7 PM kickoff. The buzz is that Virginia Tech verbal Emmett Laws is off to a blazing start, blocking multiple field goals vs. Freedom in a game that was ultimately called due to weather. The practice reps against Laws have helped Maryland offensive tackle verbal Terez Davis as the former tight end and defensive lineman transitions to his new position. Now, Davis and Pitt verbal Mason Lindsay are the two bookend tackles and the Maryland commit is hitting his stride heading into conference play.
“Going against the defense, Emmett Laws, in practice every day. That translates to the game,” Davis told IBG. The 6-foot-7 lineman is up to 300 pounds, his target goal for his senior year, where he’s transitioned into the Stags’ full-time left tackle as he puts an emphasis on refining his technique.
“For me I feel like just changing positions, getting in the weight room, working on my line stuff. Being out here with the coaches, they help me out a lot.”
Davis’s strong play to begin his senior season has piqued the interest of several other schools, with Florida, Auburn and Penn State working on a flip.
The Nittany Lions are the school working hardest to get him on campus as of late. “They’ve been calling me. The line coach has been calling me. They want me to go there for a game. They like my film, they really like me. I told them I’m locked in with Maryland. We’ll see how it goes. They’ve been calling my parents too.”
Davis admitted the pursuit from Florida and Auburn was similar as both schools have been reaching out to gauge his interest. Still, he explains why he’s not interested in visits other than Maryland heading into the halfway point of the college football season.
“I feel like I don’t because I feel like coach Locksley is giving me a great opportunity. One thing about me and my family, if I start something I’m going to finish. My word means a lot. I don’t really entertain schools. I’m locked in,” Davis told IBG. “The coaching staff. Coach Locks, Gattis, Sumlin, Braswell, they’re great people. And I can do it at home where my mom can watch me. I feel like it’s a great opportunity and I don’t want to miss out on it.”
Davis has made his way back to Maryland for a pair of home games this season and teamed up with Ryan Howerton to be an advocate in the 2024 class, while he’s been impressed with the offensive line heading into week six.
“I feel like they’re great. Pass protection, they’re great. The running game, they’ve got Roman Hemby, Littleton so they’re solid. We’ll see what they do against Ohio State this week.”
Terez Davis is rated a three-star prospect and an 86 overall by On3, sitting as the 31st-best prospect in Maryland.
