Maryland football announced a near-finalized staff on Thursday afternoon with Corey Liuget and Louis Swaba promoted to the on-field staff, while new coaching assignments for James Thomas, Zac Spavital and Latrell Scott were made official where they take over the safeties, inside linebacker and wide receiver room in 2025. But there was another change that was made official, this time on the roster side.

Offensive lineman Andre Roye is no longer with the program, a team spokesperson confirmed to IBG.

Roye, a former four-star out of Saint Frances (Md.) in the 2022 class, started in seven games in 2024 at left tackle and appeared in nine games through his first two seasons with the program. Following the season-ending injury that former Buffalo OL Isaiah Wright suffered days after moving into College Park, it was Roye who was viewed as a big piece of the 2024 offensive line where he drew praise heading into the season opener.

“He would be one of my stars of camp thus far,” head coach Mike Locksley said during fall camp last year. “Dre has kept his mouth shut. He’s managed the emotional part of the game that from a maturity standpoint, I see him taking that next step, man. And I’ve talked to him about that piece. He plays it the way you want to play it with that effort and he plays with a little edge to where he’s playing right to that echo of the whistle and how you want to see a young pup kind of grow up. And so I like the way Andre’s coming along. He’s playing and practicing with the purpose and now it’s the, will the consistency be there? And that’s the part with a young team and young players, the consistency of playing that way day in and day out. And that’s what we were striving for as we fight through camp and we hit those plateaus in camp, got to push through.”

Following a disappointing season on both sides of the trenches, Maryland made the trenches a priority in the offseason where they signed OT Rahtrel Perry and OL Jayvin James along with DL Eyan Thomas, edge DD Holmes and 2025 four-star edge Zahir Mathis. Whether Roye remained along the offensive line or bolstered the tight end room as a blocking option in 2025 was a storyline, but instead, he’ll have two years to play two elsewhere.

Roye signed with Maryland in the 2022 class, flipping his commitment from Penn State while USC worked to flip the former four-star in the weeks leading up to signing day. Roye was one of two marquee signings to close the 2022 class as he and linebacker Jaishawn Barham inked with the program.
