Portal Linebacker Talks Offer from Maryland, Timeline

Maryland has stayed on top of a hectic week inside the transfer portal and on Thursday night, the staff jumped into the mix for a new name on the defensive side of the ball.

Louisiana Tech outside linebacker Allen Walker announced his decision to enter the transfer portal back on November 30 and has seen several schools reach out since officially entering on Monday. “Purdue is supposed to come through an offer and a few HBCUs have reached out,” he told IBG. While schools are working on an in-home visit now, Walker wasn’t expecting a call from wide receiver coach Gunter Brewer but after a quick call on Wednesday night, the staff pulled a trigger of an offer.

“I thanked him for the offer, I was very excited. He wanted to get me down for a visit,” Walker added. “It’s a lot of schools trying to get me in so I haven’t set anything up yet.” While he’s unsure who else he plans to see and when, Walker was certain that a Maryland visit will be set. “I’m most definitely coming down for a visit, I just need to see what weekends are free. I feel pretty confident. I love their culture, I love how they play football and they put guys in the league. It’s just a good opportunity.” https://twitter.com/allenfootball12/status/1597984605566808064?s=46&t=93aF5zS2jXOWxD95k680DQ

Maryland has several slots to fill and saw Ahmad McCullough, who was an integral part in the rotation, elect to transfer while Fa’Najae Gotay also is not expected to return next season. After redshirting his freshman season, Walker appeared in 28 games over the last two seasons as an inside linebacker, the position that Maryland also extended the offer at. Walker combined for 23 tackles his first two seasons while adding three more tackles and one fumble recovery last season. With a need to replenish depth, Walker isn’t looking to drag out his recruitment.
