After splitting last week’s contests, Maryland men’s basketball returns to action on Thursday night as they travel to take on Nebraska.

Maryland won the first match, 69-66, back on Jan. 19 while Nebraska enters Thursday 6-3 all-time at home against Maryland. Thursday serves as a Quad One game with Maryland sitting 5-5 in those contests so far this season.

Nebraska’s loss against Maryland was one of six consecutive losses from the Huskers, but that changed on Jan. 30 after taking down then-18th-ranked Illinois, 80-74, in overtime. That sparked a four-game win streak as Nebraska will now look for its third win over a ranked team in eleven days.

Brice Williams leads the way averaging a team-high 19.4 points with a pair of 30-point games this season. Senior forward Juwan Gary is averaging just above 13 points per game while Connor Essegian has continued to be a spark off the bench averaging double figures scoring.

But the Huskers will also have a big absence in the frontcourt with Berke Büyüktuncel ruled out vs. Maryland.

“He is pretty sore and twisted that thing good,” head coach Fred Hoiberg said Monday night. “It is so unfortunate. He had been shooting the ball like that in practice and just had been waiting for a game where hook the lid off the basket…he is so valuable to us because he can guard so any positions out there, including the five. He is as good as anybody we have on our roster in defending the post, and he is leading us in rebounding. It was good to see him get going, and we are going to miss him.”

While the absence of the 7-foot-1 big man could spell success for Maryland’s frontcourt, it was Andrew Morgan who proved to be the tough matchup in the first matchup after finishing with 17 points and five rebounds.

Maryland, meanwhile, has won five of their last six games while head coach Kevin Willard will look for his third true road win of the season and first of the month.

Maryland’s win over Wisconsin back on Jan. 29. Proved to be the difference in the AP poll as the Terps rose to 18th last week, but the three-point loss vs. State one week ago today dropped the Terps seven spots in the latest update.

Maryland is one of four high major teams with all five starters averaging double figures with Derik Queen leading the way (15.5).
