Maryland football is officially down one scholarship quarterback as a source confirmed that quarterback Cam Edge plans to enter the transfer portal, while a team spokesperson confirmed he has already left the program. Edge’s UMTerps page has been removed on Monday.
Edge, a former four-star prospect out of Smyrna (DE) after beginning his career at DeMatha (MD), signed with Maryland alongside in-state QB Jayden Sauray in the 2022 class to become the second quarterback in the class. His commitment was made possible after AJ Swann backed off his pledge before flipping to Vanderbilt, giving the Terps a signal caller after Edge reclassified from 2023 to 2022.
“I just thought about it for a while. My supporting cast brought it up years ago, it was always a possibility to do it and now it’s been kind of more common. I kind of thought about it and this would probably be the best place to do it and I sat down and talked with [Maryland]. They said it would actually be better for them so they started to make a big push for recruiting me hard once they knew I could do that,” Edge said back in 2022.
After redshirting in 2022, Edge appeared in two games in 2023 where he finished 6-of-9 for 100 yards and one touchdown. Edge also finished 4-of-6 for 82 yards while tossing his first career touchdown in the Music City Bowl vs. Auburn before retooling his frame to become a contender for the starting job in 2024.
Edge, though, has appeared in just two games in 2024 after completing one pass for ten yards vs. Villanova while his first appearance came against UConn when he finished 4-of-6 for 57 yards and one touchdown.
