Angola is set to embark on its fourth consecutive Olympic Qualifying Tournament in hopes of ending a 16-year Olympic appearance drought, and they’ll do so with a pair of familiar names on its roster with current Maryland guard Selton Miguel and former Maryland center Bruno Fernando teaming up. Angola, who enters the OAT ranked 34th in FIBA’s updated world rankings, will face Spain on Wednesday and Lebanon on Thursday. The Spaniards, who rank second in the updated FIBA world rankings, enter the OQT as both the home team and favorites as they will feature the Hernangomez twins and Santi Aldama (Grizzlies), though former Barcelona guard and longtime NBA guard Ricky Rubio opted to not suit up. The Lebanese, who rank 28th in the world, are led by former Warriors forward Omari Spellman as they look to reach their first-ever Olympics. Bruno Fernando, who became the first Angolan to reach the NBA, will lead the frontcourt alongside Jilson Bango and former Kansas big man Silvio De Sousa as Angola looks to secure their first Olympic appearance since 2008. Miguel, 23, is set to suit up in his second OQT before he officially transitions to College Park. Not only will this week give the two cousins a chance to share the floor together, but it’ll give Maryland fans their first glimpse at one of their impact offseason signings as fans can stream the games on DAZN. “We've been talking for years about playing on the same team,” Miguel said in a recent feature story on UMTerps.com. “Every year, there is always something about the national team. I never really had time because AAU was always in the summer when I got to high school, and when I got to college, I always had a really strong off-season where I didn't want to leave my team.
