Buzz Williams officially has his second portal commitment since taking over as head coach after former Texas A&M forward Solomon Washington went public with his decision, shortly after teasing it on Pharrel Payne’s commitment post.
Washington started in 23 of the Aggies’ 32 games in 2024-25, his second season consecutive averaging at least 22 minutes per game, where he averaged 4.7 points, 5.1 rebounds and shot 55% from inside the arc. Washington’s best season was his sophomore year where he started in 20 games and appeared in all 34 where he averaged 7.4 points and 5.7 rebounds per game, both career-highs, while shooting 48.3% from the field. Now, he’ll head to College Park where he becomes the latest piece in the frontcourt.
The veteran forward also enters College Park shooting just 24.2% from three over his three seasons in College Station, including a career-low 18.9% in 2024-25, while shooting just above 72% from the free-throw line.
Texas A&M On3: One area that can be worked on quite a bit is Washington’s 3-point shooting stroke. Though he doesn’t take a ton of them — 128 career attempts — he does hoist enough that last season’s mark won’t quite cut it. Washington hit just 18.9% of his 3-pointers this season after hitting 26.7% as a freshman and 28.3% as a sophomore. He’s a 72.1% career free-throw shooter.
The news comes roughly 15 hours after Derik Queen officially announced his departure for the 2025 NBA Draft, tasking Buzz Williams to restock the entire rotation with Washington now joining Payne as notable pieces inside.
