For the first time since 2021, Maryland will have at least one pledge suit up in the All-American Bowl after Spalding (MD) composite four-star quarterback Malik Washington announced his invite on Sunday.
Washington, a 6-foot-4 quarterback out of Severn, has led Spalding to a blazing 3-0 start as they’ve entrenched themselves as one of, if not the best, team in the DMV in 2024. Washington opened the season 23-of-27 for 239 yards and four total touchdowns as Spalding dominated Archbishop Hoban, 28-14, before controlling DeMatha at home the following week in a 26-10 win. Washington followed it up with another efficient performance after accounting for five touchdowns vs. McDonogh, a rematch of the 2023 MIAA-A Championship Game. Spalding will shift its attention to Calvert Hall (MD) on Friday night with aspirations of moving to 5-0 in a game featuring four Maryland commits, but Washington continues to cement himself as one of the area’s top prospects.
Washington checked in as the 24th-best quarterback in the country and second-best in Maryland behind Brunswick (MD) four-star Ethan Houck in On3’s updated top 300.
Washington announced his commitment to Maryland in late June over Syracuse, Virginia Tech and UCF among others and has become an asset on the recruiting trail as head coach Mike Locksley and his staff look to add more talent to its 2025 class.
“It really is because I’ve always felt comfortable,” Washington told IBG. “I like the coaching staff and the offense. It’s just a place that I feel like I can see myself for the next four years.”
The All-American game will likely serve as Washington’s final high school game before he enrolls in College Park for the spring semester in 2025.
The annual East vs. West matchup will take place at the Alamodome in San Antonio Texas on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025 at 1 PM.
