A handful of Terps were in action this weekend with the NFL playoffs in full swing , while one found the endzone and a handful drew startss.
The Chargers kicked off wildcard weekend against the Texans, and despite Los Angeles taking an early 6-0 lead, Houston through the final three quarters en route to a 32-12 win. Still posted three tackles in the season-finale and drew a 75.6 grade on PFF, including a 76.3 grade in coverage which ranked third among Chargers defenders in the postseason. A former fifth-round pick, Still ended his rookie campaign leading the Chargers in interceptions with four, while the former Maryland cornerback was named an NFL All-Rookie selection by FOX Sports and a second-team selection by The Athletic and The 33rd Team.
On Saturday evening, Pittsburgh second-year OL Spencer Anderson filled in for Mason McCormick at guard in a 28-14 loss against Baltimore. Anderson played in 46 snaps and drew an 83.2 grade in pass blocking, per PFF, after stepping up for arguably the biggest performance of his young NFL career.
“You just have to be ready whenever your number is called, regardless, because something could happen in the middle of a game and you’ve got to be ready,” Anderson said ahead of the game.
Anderson, who also played 14 snaps in the season-finale against Cincinnati, played in all 18 games for Pittsburgh in 2024. Ravens rookie safety Beau Brade was inactive on Saturday.
This weekend also marked the first time that both Washington and Baltimore won a playoff game during the same weekend.
The Buffalo Bills would then take center stage to kick off Sunday’s action, and it was former two-star Ty Johnson who used his two hands to haul in his fourth receiving touchdown and fifth total touchdown of the season. The versatile running back found space in the endzone to make the 24-yard highlight-reel reception to extend Buffalo’s first-half lead, part of an onslaught against Denver. Johnson finished with 44 yards on nine carries.
“I was nervous. I was saying I knew I caught it and I was like damn, I was definitely close to the out of bounds. But, you know, guy in the sky don’t lie,” Johnson said postgame.
“I had an out-breaking route,” Johnson said. “I had my protection, got out, out-breaking route, and then I saw Josh scramble, and so I just turned upfield. Saw he was on the other side of the field. So, really, just replace middle of the field because it was the open area.”
While quarterback Josh Allen noted the former Maryland star “made a heck of a play for us,” Johnson also earned praise from his teammate on national TV.
“I've been saying Ty Johnson's the best third-down back in football,” Allen said. “The things that he's able to do for us, the way we can communicate, him in the pass game blocking and running the ball, he does it all. I'm so proud of him. He made a heck of a play. It was fourth down, no point in holding it, taking a sack there. They played man and [I] just gave him a chance."
Bills DL Quinton Jefferson and Buccaneers WR Rakim Jarrett did not record a stat.
