Three-star DC safety Zahir Cobb includes Maryland in top five

Maryland football and head coach Mike Locksley sit at three commitments in the 2026 class with roughly six weeks until official visit season kicks off, but one local target who already has a return visit locked in kept Maryland in his top group after St. Albans (DC) three-star safety Zahir Cobb released his top five.

Cobb, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound safety, included Indiana, Maryland, Penn State, Virginia and Virginia Tech in his top five. Cobb has official visits set to all but Indiana so far with the Maryland official visit locked in for the June 13 weekend.

The DC standout made his way back to College Park for last Saturday’s practice where he got an in-depth look at the program with assistant Aazaar Abdul-Rahim tapping into his longstanding ties with Cobb’s father while recruiting analyst Christian Feliziani has chipped in on efforts.

“I loved the visit,” Cobb told IBG last week. “When I first got there I was chilling in the recruiting lounge with [coordinator of scouting] Christian [Feliziani] and then went to meetings, walked around, got to meet all the coaches, players, walked around in the locker room after practice. It was great.”

“I got to sit in on the meetings, what they do in practice. He let me choose groups I wanted to see, walking out on the field and watching, being able to let me watch him coach his guys. And I was watching what the receivers were doing, like in the scrimmages so I got a pretty good idea of how the program runs on both sides of the ball.”

As a junior, Cobb posted 55 tackles, 13 pass deflections and five interceptions last season. He also had 1,265 yards of offense and 16 touchdowns.

Zahir Cobb is rated a three-star and an 88 overall by On3, checking in as the third-best prospect in DC in the 2026 class.
