With Maryland football inching closer toward the end of the 2024 season, which freshmen have burned through their redshirt? Who is still hanging onto an extra year of eligibility? We take a look at how the freshmen class has fared in year one:
Already played through redshirt:
OLB Trey Reddick: 8
CB Kevyn “Kerm” Humes: 8
CB Judah Jenkins: 8
LB Keyshawn Flowers: 7
OL Terez Davis: 7
S Brandon Jacob: 6
LB Keyari James: 6
Reddick has continued to impress when on the field. He collected first career sack and tackle for loss against Indiana and another TFL against Minnesota. Humes and Jenkins have been part of a youth movement at corner where Maryland hopes it will help these guys in the future. Humes had has a career high three tackles against Villanova, Michigan State, and USC. Jenkins was credited for a half tackle for loss against Minnesota, though he was ejected in the first half of the Minnesota loss for targeting. Both Jenkins and Humes have stepped into big roles in a cornerback room that has struggled with growing pains in the first season under Aazaar Abdul-Rahim.
Davis looks every bit of the player advertised when he signed, lining up at left and right tackle at times this year. Jacob had four tackles against Virginia and nine total on the season, although he has missed the last two games.
Keyshawn had a career high in tackles against Villanova with four. James record a tackle against UConn, Villanova, Northwestern, and Minnesota.
Max games reached:
CB Braydon Lee: 4
OL Michael Hershey: 4
Unfortunately, Lee will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a season-ending injury last month, thinning out the cornerback room even more. He’ll be a name to watch in 2025. Hershey, meanwhile, locked down the second-string center spot and could be in competition for the starting job next year.
Everyone else:
RB Josiah McLaurin: 3
RB DeJuan Williams: 2
DB Shamar McIntosh: 2
LB Keion Flowers: 2
DL Dimitry Nicolas: 2
OL Ryan Howerton: 1
OL Anthony Robsock: 1
McLaurin and Williams scored touchdowns in the first game of the season against UConn. Williams also had a 23-yard run against Minnesota. Howerton saw time at guard against UCONN. Fellow lineman Robsock got some time against Villanova. Keion, Keyshawn’s twin brother, and McIntosh recorded a tackle against UConn. Nicolas had one against Villanova.
