Two priority local targets set June official visits to Maryland

Maryland has been able to watch a long list of targets begin setting up their summer plans with official visits in the works, and two more priority targets now have dates to make their way to College Park this fall. Calvert Hall (MD) three-star athlete JT Taggart is still ironing out a date for an unofficial visit to Maryland as he expects to make his way to campus for a spring practice, but he’ll be on campus this summer with an official visit set to begin on June 7, he tells IBG. Assistant Kevin Sumlin has led the way for Taggart, the son of Ravens RB coach Willie Taggart, down the stretch as Maryland has still kept the athlete tag in now in his recruitment, but the Terps have been a consistent contender with him since extending an offer following his junior season. Colorado, Louisville, Tennessee and West Virginia are the main schools that Taggart is working to get to this summer. Two weeks later, Maryland will have another priority target on campus with St. John’s (DC) four-star cornerback Tariq Hayer set to take his official visit to Maryland the weekend of June 21, he tells IBG. Hayer has had Maryland in his top group ever since his junior year as co-defensive coordinators Aazaar Abdul-Rahim and Brian Williams have teamed up as the dynamic duo in the Terps’ pursuit. Hayer was initially planning to announce his commitment back on Christmas Day with the Badgers initially sitting in pole position but the four-star opted to hold off with his recruitment still taking form. Hayer then took an unofficial visit to Miami (FL) while in town for a 7-on-7 tournament back in January and he’s set to check out Alabama, Auburn and Rutgers later this month for unofficial visits. Meanwhile, Maryland has hosted Hayer twice since the start of the new year as the four-star is also expected to unofficially visit campus for a spring practice as the Terps look to keep its top target home. JT Taggart is rated a three-star prospect and an 87 overall by On3, sitting as the 22nd-best prospect in Maryland. Tariq Hayer is rated a four-star prospect and a 91 overall by On3, sitting as the 128th-best prospect in the country. Related Links
