Maryland football closed its 2025 class out with a bang as four-star edge Zahir Mathis went public with his commitment five days after making the call during his official visit to campus.

Mathis becomes the sixth composite four-star commit in the 2025 cycle alongside quarterback Malik Washington, OT Jaylen Gilchrist, safety Messiah Delhomme, wide receiver Zymear Smith and running back Iverson Howard. In what’s long been viewed as a program-changing class with a deep list of regional talent, we take a look at where Maryland’s signed 2025 class ranks:

247 Composite: 25th (8th)

Rivals: 26th (9th)

On3: 32nd (10th)

ESPN last updated their ranks prior to signing day with Maryland checking in at 26th as Mathis’ commitment likely places the Terps inside the top-25 by a second outlet. Maryland’s seven signees inside the ESPN300 marks the most in program history, while Maryland’s 22nd-ranked class is the highest since 2021.

“Good recruiting starts at home, and while it has been difficult to defend the DMV recruiting turf that surrounds the Terrapins, they have won some key battles to keep top talent at home,” ESPN wrote.

Roughly one hour after his announcement, the program officially announced that Zahir Mathis had signed his Big Ten athletics scholarship agreement, cementing himself as the 21st signee in Maryland’s class. Meanwhile, Maryland saw a pair of verbal commits sign elsewhere, as expected, with Calvert Hall (Md.) twins - DL Asaiah and LB Alijah Hamond - sticking in the Baltimore area after inking with Towson.
