WR Tai Felton named to PFF’s Big Ten Team of the Week after UConn game

Maryland wide receiver Tai Felton was named to PFF’s Big Ten Team of the Week after his record-setting performance vs. UConn.

Felton led the way in Saturday’s win vs. UConn after hauling in seven receptions for 178 yards, both career highs for the senior wideout. It also marked the most receiving yards by a Terp since DJ Moore recorded 210 receiving yards vs. Northwestern in 2017, while Felton’s 178 receiving yards were the tenth-most among any FBS player in week one games through Saturday. It also marked his third career 100-yard receiving game and second multi-touchdown game. His first multi-touchdown game came against Indiana in 2023 after becoming the first Terp to record three receiving touchdowns in the first half.

Billy Edwards Jr. noted the Huskies’ defense made an effort to take away Prather from the Terps’ gameplan, giving Felton a chance to shine. “We tried to push the ball down the field. They were kind of taken away,” Edwards added.

“We have so many playmakers, it’s hard for anybody to stop everybody. Our goal is to always make plays so whenever it’s my turn to get the ball, I’m trying to make a play,” Felton said following the win. “When it’s [Kaden Prather’s] turn to get the ball, it’s time to make a play. Our goal is to make a play no matter who gets the ball.”

While Octavian Smith Jr. and Shaleak Knotts were also among the ten different players to catch at least one pass in the win, no catch was bigger than Felton’s 75-yard catch and run down the sideline. “Hats off to the skill around me,” Billy Edwards added after the win.

Saturday also marked the start of the Virginia connection between Edwards and Felton after the two played against each other and trained together in high school.

“It’s a different swagger with Billy out there because Billy, he’s a big runner guy. He likes to run the ball a lot. He was telling us on the sideline how he doesn’t like to slide because of the hit he took. It’s a blessing having all three of those guys out there just because of how hard they work. I remember telling you guys last time, but those guys are in the facility sun up till sun down so when you see those guys work that hard, you want to work as hard as well.”
